Serious or happy?

OK. So down to two photos.

Any thoughts out there? Need to e-mail to RWA tomorrow.

Happy Easter!

  1. Happy!

    I like #2. You're smilin'. :)

  2. Oh no! This is tough... they are both so cool, and in very different ways.

I can see the first one on the back of the books. It's very Jodi Picoult... but maybe the second one looks more "RWA Award Ceremony" because you are smiling.

Tough tough tough choice. But both are fabulous!

  3. I too like them both, but the first one jumped out at me more, more authorly. But you can't go wrong with either.

  4. #2. I agree they're both great, but I love the smile in 2

  5. both lovely -- but I like the lighting in #1 better -- makes your skin glow.

  6. Definitely number 2!

    Isn't this hard??

  7. These are terrific photos and I like them both! I think I was drawn to #1 a bit more...but whichever one you choose, it'll look great :).

  8. I like them both, Maureen! I can't choose. No help here. :-)

  9. hi Maureen - saw you over at Diana's blog and thought I'd popover and say hello.

Not knowing you at all - I like the happy one best - makes you look very friendly and warm - like it'd be easy to ask you to sign the flap of a book!

  10. Oh, boy, it looks like a split -- I like #1 ... it's brighter, yet you seem more ... pensive...creative... or as Trish says, authorly. But either one is better than any pic you'd ever get of me!

  11. I agree with Diana - the first one looks so authorly and I can see it on the back cover but the second one is inviting - less formal and with a great smile. I'm not much help, either. Maybe send #2 to RWA and save #1 for your back cover.

  12. I like number 1. It's thoughtful and soft.

  13. Maureen: Great photos both! But I tend to lean toward #1. Definitely says 'women's fiction author' to me. It's a beautiful picture.

But I also like the suggestion someone here had - you could send the smiling one to RWA for the Golden Heart and keep the other for when you publish the book. That Lovin' Spoonfuls song comes to mind: "Did you ever have to make up your mind..."
Good luck and let us know which one you choose.

  14. I really like #1. Then, at the ceremony, you'll be smiling so we'll get to see both sides of you :-)

  15. #2 gets my vote. Although they're both good. :) And how exciting to have this dilemna--which picture should I send as a GH finalist?!!!

  16. The marketing gal in me says it depends.

Do you write humor? If so, I like the smiley one.

Is your voice more serious? Then go with the authorly one.

  17. I say use the second one for the RWA ceremony and save the first one for the author pic on your first pubbed novel! The woodsy background and the lovely jacket are so great. But as everyone said, you look so fun and approachable in the second one that I'd have to go with that for the ceremony.

  18. Thanks everyone! Doesn't look like there's a clear winner...

I think I may send the smiley one to RWA and put the outside one on my bio page on my website... Maybe I can put the smiley one on my contact page... hmmmm...

Who'd a thunk I'd have two photos I don't hate. LOVE that photographer.

  19. Hey I don't check your site for a few days and everything changes!

I love both pictures, but I think I like number 1 a bit better.

  20. I like #2... it's more you, and you look happy.

  21. Sorry to weigh in late...but I love both pictures for different reasons. #1 is very author-like and #2 is very Maureen-like. = )

    Which one did you send?

  23. Hi Maureen,

It's Jing your photographer! Just thought I'd pop by to see which photo you decided on using... and it looks like it's still a tie :) what a great dilemma to have.

I love both those photos, and for the record, there were more than 2 photos that were good :) It's just that these two are the best.
