Ode to Jodie Foster

Posted during the Oscar red carpet....

I don't know what it is about Jodie Foster. Maybe it's that we're almost exactly the same age, (okay, I'm 6 months and 15 days older) maybe it's because I saw her in so many Disney movies when I was a kid, maybe it was because we're both blonde (well, I was) and tomboyish and (she says humbly) smart (or at least we both did well at school, which isn't always the same thing as smart)....

I don't know exactly what it is. I just know if I could be anyone in the world other than myself. I would be Jodi Foster.

And it's not the fame (although I wouldn't hate that) it's the brains and the class and the confidence and the way her blue eyes matched her dress at the Oscars. I'd die for that. (But my dress would have to be green and my eyes would have to be a different colour of green to look that great in a dress...) How great was it that she told Ryan Seacrest that she had her eyes specially died to match her dress? Wit people. That's called wit. Okay, I want her wit, too.

I once dated a man who thought I looked likd Helen Hunt (okay, before you laugh, I was thinner then) But if I was going to pick an actress my age I identify with, it wouldn't be Helen (though I love her) it would be Jodi.

Speaking of actors I remember from childhood -- Jackie Earle Haley. God I hope he wins. That would be so cool. I've blogged about Little Children before. Amazing movie. Need to read the book.

Okay, just about to post and Celine Dion walzes down the carpet... Okay, I know she has the ESL issues, but "we've been to the Oscars before". Who is she? The Queen? What's with the royal we?

I hear you on the Jodi Foster thing. She is one CLASS act.
Did you like the show? I found it boring. And I don't say that lightly!! I've watched since I was a kid and have ALWAYS loved it. I even stuck up for Letterman when he hosted!! Last night's was honestly the first time I left the room (multiple times) to do something else, and the first time I've felt disappointed somehow. There just wasn't the same magic. And they changed the order of things, which threw me a bit. Don't the best supporting awards always get done first? Why do they leave the best categories -- the ones that deserve MORE time -- until the end when they must rush?
Love to hear your take...

God I hate it when I come off 'bitchy' in these comments! I'm really easy to please normally :)

Not a Jodie Foster fan but she, of all the people, on the red carpet caught my eye. She looked simply fab.

I like the Will F/Jack B sad comedian routine. I have often wondered why comedians aren't up for best actor. Making people laugh looks to be difficult (considering how many comedies just don't work).

Wylie, you don't sound "bitchy". well not to me... check out the post I just did. LOL

Kimber, I think I'm going to blog about that comedy number on DWT on Wed...

When I read the title of your newer post I thought 'OMG! She's directing that at ME!'
And rightly so!! And I genuinely do feel horrible when I sometimes look back at my rants and thing - did I really have to go on about this?
The thing is, I'm very easy to please so when something really falls short of what I expect, I almost take it personally!
I've always loved the class of the Oscars - the dignity and high standards not seen in other award shows, so who knew there was such a fine line between dignified and dead-boring :)

When Joan and Melissa Rivers have made a comeback career (at least Joan) based on bitchy appearance-related one-liners, I don't think you should be too worried about your niceness quotient!

That being said, it's easy to criticize the overly-botoxed-collagened-anorexic stars/starlets out there but I have no doubt the entertainment industry f**ks you up, much much more so if you're a woman. You can cave to today's youth-obsessed culture or you can be yesterday's news. Granted some actresses manage to rise above that (Meryl Streep, Jody Foster, Cate Blanchett....) but I think you have to be exceptionally talented to manage that. Plus there really aren't enough roles out there that allow women to flex their acting muscles. George Cloony can be 75 years old (same for Hugh Grant) and he'll still be cast as the most eligible guy around town. Meryl Streep? Power-obsessed biatch to young, wide-eyed Andy.
