Editorial Ass: Hedging Your Bets (or, Why, God?!)

Editorial Ass: Hedging Your Bets (or, Why, God?!)

Love this post by Moonrat.

Also, I'm blogging on DWT today. Kind of a related post... Okay, in my mind it's related.

Moonrat's post is just another reminder of how freaking hard this business is. At least my recent revelations have shown me I'm willing to give up a few things in order to keep trying to beat the odds.

I've never been one to hedge my bets apparently as I just started submitting as soon as my first book was done. No real thought to whether or not it was ready, I just assumed done meant ready. lol

I've been trying to hedge my bets by submitting two different types of books at once. Read an interesting post on Jenny Bent's blog. Makes me wonder if any new author can break in with today's climate. Maybe I should let it rest for awhile. Don't know.

Kristen, I'm with you there, babe!

I was CONVINCED my first book would sell. I did revise... but still. Not good.

That was a really good post. Thanks. I always throw caution to the wind and see where it's gotten me. Lady luck has not been on my side. Or is it Lady talent. Hmmm... Must stop writing or will start to feel suckish.

It's so hard to be objective about your own work; that's where a good editorial perspective from an agent or crit partner can really come in handy.

Thanks for pointing me to that post, Marilyn. I tend to be cautious--probably *too* cautious. But I can't help thinking once it *feels* right it's simply a numbers game.
